What is Holiday Heart Syndrome?

What is Holiday Heart Syndrome?

Did you know that In the week between Christmas and New Year more
patients visit the emergency room due to cardiovascular issue than any other period in the year. Why's that? You guessed it: Holiday Heart Syndrome. This refers to a fluttering heart rate (atrial fibulation) attributed to the stress and alcohol consumption around the holiday period - being 50+ adds to the risk profile!

If you have experienced a fluttering of the heart, or noticed heart rhythm changes on your Apple Watch be sure to get it checked out. Here are some other tips you try to avoid Holiday Heart Syndrome:

Hydrate: should you partake, pace yourself with a glass of water between drinks
Don’t skip Medication: avoid missing any prescribed heart medication
De-stress: spend time with your pet, try paced breathing, do some of the exercises your therapist suggested for your back!

Physical Therapy & Chiropractic Associates of South Florida and Dr David Seidner wish you a healthy and happy holidays! We wish all our wondeful patients in Tamarac, Margate,  Parkland,  Sunrise, Lauderhill,  Plantation, Coconut Creek, Coral Springs and beyond a safe and enjoyable holiday period!
